How can real time clock keep track of clock after power down?

who knows how can real time clock keep track of clock after power down ,what's the relation between RTC and clock unit?

RTCs usually have backup batteries which allow them to run internal time keeping circuitry for years .. see picture below ..

Yes! It need battery backup and XTAL let time-counter to keep go on.
