Hierarchical separator (:) vs default (.) in starRx extraction

I found that we can use this opinion to convert from default separator ) to (.) so that when simulation with lpe netlist we can get the hierarchical output wavefrom structure.
.The default separator make the output waveform .tr0 flattened, while the (.) separator makes the output hierarchical, so why don't set it as default? Does it has any effect on simulation speed?
