help for coprocessor design on FPGA

Hi all,
I am thinking of designing a instruction set coprocessor for matrix operations mainly for image processing applications. And I have to begin from nothing. Can anyone suggest me any reference material or documents?

I know what HDL is. I am actually designing in verilog. I am looking for some soft core processor design help and matrix operations required for image processing and instruction set processor design, and where to start. Video links will be more helpful.
