I am reading the datasheet for this chip and it says
+3.3V (using external oscillator) to +5.25V (internal oscillator) Single Supply Operation.

what does it mean ? my system is 3.3v and i want to use this as supply voltage . in datasheet its not showing what this internal
or external osc is and how to implement it.

thanks

There are detailed explanations in the datasheet, particularly in paragraph 7.6 "Using the External Oscillator".

FT232R will be typically used in the bus-powered configuration (Vcc = 5V VBUS) with the default internal oscillator. The IO voltage can be nevertheless 3.3V.

thanks !
after talking to FTDI folks they recommended to use FT230X as that chip can be used directly with 3.3 v
