impuse response

I have a filter whose impulse response is known to me h(t). I want to find its frequency response H(f) using FFT in Matlab. How long of h(t) should I use to compute FFT to find H(f)?

Simulation time time for h(t) should be long enough for h(t) to become zero, and you might want to add more zeros (zero padding) to get better frequency resolution (frequency resolution df=1/T, where T is the total simulation time).
