for image processing projects rasberry pi or beagle bone is good.for your application RP is OK

Since facial features are dynamic , pattern recognition has its limitations with accuracy unlike retina scans which have hundreds of fiducia points and move less.

So the camera is not critical limiting factor but light is very important.
