file server considerations

I am trying to setup a separate file server for all of our IC designs. There will be designs from 5 - 6 engineers on this server. I am looking for some suggestions into from whom I should buy the server from, OS selection, HDD considerations, backup considerations, etc. This is my first time looking into anything like this, so any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
