what is sip stack

I am doing my fyp on sip protocol analyzer to decode the header information of voip traffic for which sip is used and then store information on database but i have some queries can anybody help me with that

1 what is sip stack

does it translate from physical to application layer and how does different layers interact and how do we translate information
