ethernet canbus

Hello,
I think on a cheep Ethernet to CANbus Gateway.
commercional products use ARM...

Please have a look at:
hxxp://wxw-ccs.cs.umass.edu/~shri/iPic.html

Do you think the solution works also with a PIC18Cxxx?
Is this a way to go ?

pic ethernet with ccs

Well,

Doing Ethernet and IP with a PIC is quite possible and many projects showed it. Moreover some PICs have a CAN interface built-in, which makes it possible to build a cheap IP to CAN gateway.

But PIC was never meant to implement a full TCP/IP stack and all these high-level things, so you'll end up with a minimalist implementation and something definitely not matching a professionnal grade system.

It depends on what you want. If all you need is a minimalist implementation, then go for the PIC solution. If you want a high-performance gateway, consider using a more powerful toy that will provide you with enough power to do a REAL IP stack.

Any comment ?
