We are designing high speed boards that is almost same application as samsung galaxy tab and we wanted to use an EMI shield in order to prepare for the upcoming certifications needed and also the reliability of our product.

On step 12 on this website is the their EMI shield
Samsung Galaxy Tab Teardown - Page 2 - iFixit

Any considerations on doing an EMI shield? material, thickness, etc.?
I notice also that the shield also had the same lines on the board, I assume that it is connected directly to the digital ground of the system. Can anyone help me regarding this matter. Thank you.

EMI shielding should be grounded well. Materials with good conductivity can be used.

for more information you should read EMC books such as Electromagnetic compatibility written by C. Paul
