open, read and view an .edf file in Labview

Any hints, suggestions, vi template - would greatly be appreciated.

I would advise you to ask this question on the NI LabVIEW forums: [link]. LabVIEW is a hateful, hateful piece of software, but the forums are pretty good for finding work-arounds for lots of issues.
