applications of ebg surfaces
This one could be a good starter:
**broken link removed**
Sohn et al investigate 4 types of AMC's for low profile antenna applications: a sievenpiper surface, uniplanar EBG, peano fractal and hilbert fractal curves.
Basically, these all act as a planar resonant LC circuit and therefore reflect the E field in phase. This way the antenna could be close to the surface (instead of 1/4 λ for a PEC)
For further basic info, there's an awful lot of articles about sievenpiper surfaces (starting in 1999: **broken link removed**), J McVay, N Engheta and A Hoorfar did a lot on peano and hilbert fractal curve AMC's (for instance: **broken link removed**)
I myself am currently working on the application of such AMC's to replace the PEC and 1/4 λ spacer in salisbury screen absorbers, doing simulations in HFSS and FEKO.
Can't get to you through e-mail, since that's all blocked from within the company (defence)
I could mail in weekends, but then I won't have all info with me however. Subject is completely unclassified, so I am allowed to tell you anything, but there are limited options to do so. If you want, you can call me by old school telephone however
