new to DSP

hi all,
i m a new user to DSP. i have started to learn with tms320c6711 dsp starter kit, and i m referring Rulph Chassiang for this purpose. i have some doubts regarding the support files, which are needed with every program we run on the DSK. I want to know how would i start for my application in real world. will i be required to make/write my own support files for the board i will develope? if yes then where should i get the help to write these support files
thanks & regards
