hai to all

why we need MAC address??
And what is the difference between MAC vs IP address??

MAC address works on data link layer and IP address works on network layer. Data link layer devices don't know its IP addresses and you can't deliver an IP packet without MAC address in the data link layer network such as Ethernet.

mac address is usually a hardware stored identity for any network related device, the mac address is different for any manufacturer and device and no 2 devices will have the same mac unless non standard procedures are used, there are still some software that can change it but the change is only in a software layer and not permanent.
The IP is like an identity of a node in a network and can be different while the mac stays the same, for example with a dynamic IP internet connection you get a different IP any time you log in, also IP can group a set of network devices in a network and give then access to each other.
The IP is like a temporary identity assigned to a network device while it is part of a network.

MAC is serial number of the network card and IP address your network address. In simple terms when the PC sends packets on the network it is sent alongwith your IP and MAC address. The reason is that your ip address can chnage but your mac address cannot change unless you card is having fault and you change the card. The other comparision can be done with your Mobile number and IMEI number, the first one is your number provided by your service provider but the later one is your mobile serial number. If you change you mobile still your mobile number remains the same.

Thankyou
