Hi guys,

I have been doing FPGA design for a few months and this question has been rising in my head: Does FPGA designer need to be a "Floorplanning Master"?

Up to now, I have seen a lot of books on FPGA, and most of them focus on VHDL/Verilog Coding. Very few books also talk about synthesis/simulation. But none of them give a good toturial on floorplanning and P&R.

I also read some articles which claim Floorplanning is a must while some experienced designers say they seldom do floorplanning, let alone P&R.

Please give some comment.

Does FPGA designer need to be a "Floorplanning Master&a

I think, that if anyone wants to use the maximum, capabilities of a device, do floorplaning is a must.

May be it can be compared with programming a DSP with C and to don´t know its assembler language.

Re: Does FPGA designer need to be a "Floorplanning Mast

I would like to know if it is possible to do floorplanning in an Altera CPLD 7000??. Any doc to learn about how to control the floorplaning process for this CPLDs with quartus??

Best regards,

mimoto

if u want to fit ur design in smaller device then floor planing is must.
