When you need a reflective surface regarding microwaves you usually go for a piece of sheet metal - this is the obvious solution.
However, you can also use a metallic mesh. If the mesh holes are much smaller than the wavelength, then the mesh behaves also as a good reflactor.
By using a mesh you save in materials, weight and money. Is a satellite antena you can build the dish using a mesh.
As a small example: the front door in your microwave oven has a grid behind the glass, and that grid allows you to see into the oven's cavity.
