Digital Volume Control 5V with DS1802

I am wanting to make a Digital volume control that does not require amplification. i basically want to use it with 3.5mm audio jack in, and 3.5mm audio jack out, with the ability to fade the volume down via digital push button until no audio can pass through, and then obviously have the ability to fade the volume back up again via another digital push button.
The simplest thing I have found so far is to use a DS1802 potentiometer but am unsure of a couple of parts used in the image circled (apart from the 5v regulator.

Also If anybody knows of a simpler/cheaper way to make a digital button volume control i would love to hear it.

hi,
The Red connector is a Molex , two part connector, 0.1inch pitch on the pins.

The part with the red/blk/blu wires is the Molex header [ it has inserted sockets, which need crimping or soldering to the to the wires]

The Molex base is the plug part which is soldered into the PCB.

Please post the part number, printed on the small black 3 pin TO92 near the Molex, then I will be able to help you with that.

The small black 3 pin part and the capacitor are the parts i am unsure of as this is not an item i have on hand but is an item i am wanting to make.
The only place i could find an example of how to make a simple digital volume controller was on this website: **broken link removed**

Hi,

if you want to use DS1802, then read this datasheet carefully. Most probably there you can find an typical connection circuit.

It´s more safe to keep on the datasheet than guessing device types from a picture.

Maybe this is the voltage supply and/or a reset circuit. Maybe a anti-plop circuit...maybe, maybe, maybe....
