sps to bps

I going to select an ADC, but i confuse with the sample rate, is it measure in SPS(Sample per second) or BPS(Bit per second)? This two unit is it same?

sps vs bps

In ADC what we see is the the sanpling rate of the converter... If our sampling rate is Fs then the sampling time is Ts = 1/Fs. this what the Samples per second. but in digital domain... we will map a sample with some no of bits... for example 8bits per sapmle... So now we talk about the term bits per second. So what i understand is this...
at last we finish with bps only... becuase of that we talk some signal is sampled with so many bits/second....( 8kbps)....
I think this explains your doubt....

cheers...
