Difference between SER and SNR?

Why Symbol error rate (SER) are calculating instead of BER in Performance analysis of MIMO system? What condition we have to do SER Vs SNR Analysis?

Clarification require...

SER (Symbol error rate) is the ratio of symbol errors to total symbols sent.
i.e (Number of symbols received in error/ Number of symbols sent)

SNR is signal to noise ratio. i.e it is the average power of signal relative to the average power of noise.

large value of SER indicates low quality communication(as more errors are encountered) while large value of SNR indicates better communication(as our signal will stronger as compared to the noise and hence, will be affected to a small extent).

In data communication we send Symbols rather than bits. bits are transformed into a form that can be transported by our transmission medium i.e wave form(i.e symbols). so it is prefferable to calculate SER rather than BER.
