Difference between differentiator and integrator

i read in television reception that to detect horizontal and vertical sync pulses we use differentiator and integrator . but when i saw the diagram they were nothing but low pass and high pass filters. so do differentiator and integrators are nothing but filters or is there a difference.

I think Differentiators are simply high pass filters. By increasing the order of the filter we also increase the order of differenciation.

What thedesolatesoul wrote can confirmed by the Laplace transform differentiation property:

df(t)/dt ->L-> S*F(s)
d2f(t)/dt2 ->L-> S^2*F(s)
and so on...
