hi

when a load is called active load or passive load? what r the advantages of one over the other?
how to know when to use what type of load?

Regards

I guess it has been long time you have posted your question. may be you could got the answer for it.

Active load means the load amplifier is seeking in terms of active component like MOS, BJT transistor.

& Passive load means load is in terms of passive components like resistor, capacitor.

Active load remove voltage headroom, reduce process variation, temperature variation because of Passive components

Further in more simple terms

Passive Load is Load comprising of Passive Components
Active Load is the Load comprising of Active Components

In Test Boards its better to use Active Loads, If you are concerned about Temperature Variations during characterisation
