crystal vs crystal oscillator differences?

I have not been able to find the stated differences between a crystal and a crystal oscillator.

Can someone please explain the pros and cons to each of these? What applications would each be better used in?

looking at the datasheets it looks as though the IDD of the oscillator is extreme in comparison. Other than that they appear to me to be about the same?
 

Fundamentally both are functionally same, expect the fact that crystal requires some kind of feedback network in order to sustain its oscillation.
