creating vcd file in modelsim

hi, all

I have a processor . I want to create a vcd file for the signals of a sub-component in modelsim, fore example uart.vhd .plz help

If you look at the modelsim help, that is clearly indicate.

But you do not write a UART translator to stimulate it as any processor?
Or why not simulating the processor with the UART?
