I am developing a converter that convert RS-232 to RS-485 level and also i wanted communication between PC's using the same two converters( attached) but the problem with this converter is, it will transmit in only one direction what may be the problem.
NOTE: all capacitors of 10uF and distance b/w the tx and Tx is around 50cm.
Hi,
You get RS485 drivers as 2 wire half duplex type(MAX 485) or 4-wire full duplex type(MAX 489). If you want the system to look like standard RS232, you should go for the 4-wire type. In two wire types, TX output and RX input of the 485 are shorted together and you have to enable TX or RX using a control bit. Even though in 4-wire types also the enable bits are provided, TX output and RX inputs are brought out separately. For more details of these ICs, please visit Maxim site.
