Instead of building 12V 7.2A fixed power supply consider construction of adjustable unit, and independent adjustment of output voltage and current may be very beneficial in a lot of applications ..

You can use a fixed 12v power supply unit schematic with power transistors with pass resistors in parallel.The schematic diagram for the fixed power supply unit you can get from www.aaroncake.net.
