Color Sensor for microcontroller

I require a colour sensor that can sense Red and Green colours of a light source.

I have tried making a sensor using photo transistors, but unfortunately they don't work very well, they are heavily dependant on the brightness and distance from the light source. And slightest of misalignment throws off the entire calibration.

I am now looking for off the shelf solutions. Does any body know of any good sensor.

I do not believe a "Hue" sensor that is brightness independent exists.

Using photo diode is not a good idea may be you could used it with a color filter paper.. But there are already lot of sensors available in the market..
