Hi dear friends


I realized that one of the ways prevent saturation of Push-Pull Transformer is to use air gap
How was this air gap calculated?

I searched, but everyone seemed to be creating a gap experimentally!

push pull needs pk current mode control to work properly - then no gap required

else you need plenty of dead time to allow core reset ...

gapping is a poor band aid ...

What should be the dead time for the core reset?
In other words, what should be the maximum pulse width, so that the core resets well?
 

For safety, dead time should be 5%, however this estimate is made without knowing anything about your actual application or circuit.
 

Is current mode required for anything besides
phase flux / volt-seconds balance, for preventing
"flux walk"? Because the Royer oscillator is also
the basic push-pull form and has no control at
all, besides its self-oscillation.
 

The Royer - the proper Royer - relies on the core going to saturation each way - a completely different kettle of fish - this is why the classic Royer is never used at high frequencies ...
