I use a pic18f4550 and uses a 20mhz as it's clock source to run it at 48mhz.
Everything was fine until One day I couldn't enter debug mode.
I thought it was the oscialltor problem so I tried my code using internal osciallator and I could get in debug mode.
I didn't drop the crystal, maybe it bumped against some other stuff.
The pins were a little bent due to my bad breadboard.
Just wondering is it likely for the crystal to be broken.
it is this crystal.
Crystal 20MHz - SparkFun Electronics
the documentation is here.
I would rather buy another crystal but since I need to order online and I need it soon I'd like to make sure first.

Also could it be a wiring problem
After looking at the pic18f documentation they mention something about Rs a resistor and AT strip cut types/ series/ parellel.

hi,
1.you can check the crystal using a oscilloscope to see if it is working or not
2.while programming have you disabled external crystal??
3.check the capacitors which is usually connected between the crystal pins and ground
.
.
.
4.you can get the crystal from a local shop i guess
