rectifier formula
taring77,
For a full wave rectifier with an inductive input filter, you must first calculate the value of inductance that will ensure continuous current flow through the rectifiers. The value of current that ensures continuous conduction is called the critical current. The minimum value of L required to ensure continuous diode current flow is given by:
.
Lmin = KRl/Fs
where K = .060 for full wave single phase circuits
Rl is the load resistance.
fs is the frequency of the source in Hz
Lmin is the minimum inductance in Henries.
.
Once Lmin is determined, then you can calculate the value of C.
The ripple factor "r" is defined as Er/Edc, where Er is the RMS ripple voltage,
Edc is the dc output voltage.
You can determine the value of C by solving the following equation for C:
r =Sqrt(2)[LC X 10E6]/(4pif), where pi = 3.14159...
.
This information can be found in"Reference Data for Engineers", published by Howard W Sams & Co. Any decent university library will have a copy. My copy is ancient, (5th edition). The equations are found under the section"Design of Inductor-Input Filters".
