FR4 substrate

I am currently designing a bowtie antenna tat has been uploaded for ur view...i am using FR 4 substrate because of its low cost...does changing the substrate like silicon which is more expensive widens the bandwidth of this antenna or having a chance of decreasing the size of teh antenna?

Re: FR4 substrate

Saw something interesting the other day. Antenna array, about 24 x 24", on a sheet of cheap plastic. The pattern was sprayed on. The vendor said it was a type of iron coating that was sprayed on.

Re: FR4 substrate

Oh yeah when u mention bout the coating...this antenna is coated wif copper...if i coat it with a more expensive material as quartz does that also have the chance of increasing the bandwidth of the antenna?

Re: FR4 substrate

Ya,

Changing the substrate definitely increase the bandwidth. Search more IEEE papers & find which material is more suitable. material
