Boosting a LDO regulator is it a good idea?

I'm designing a FPGA board and i need to supply 1V at 1Amp for the core .Now i have a ldo 1 V 300mA regulator inside a dual buck converter chip that i use in the design feed by 4 v input .I wonder if is a good idea to boost the current of this 300mA LDO regulator to 1 A with a PNP transistor .I'm so afraid because i'm powering the heart of the system .Can somebody give me alternatives or ideas of stable boosting configurations

regards
