I'll be in my final year this august and will be sitting for campus placements. I am interested in joining a core company like cadence, freescale etc. So what books should I refer to and on which particular topics should I put more stress?

These are the few topics that you should prepare for any freshers interview..

1) Digital design
2) Sequential ckt design (Rabey) (setup, hold ,skew etc)
3) Interconnect delay basics
4) Inverter complete background (power , I-V metastability,etc rabey or weste )
5) Verilog basics (may b told to write a small code in verilog or given a small code may b told to tell the output of tht ) ,blocking ,non blocking statements
6) Latch , FF and designing of latch n flip fliop
7) Basics of design for testability (DFT) stuck at 0 ,stuck at 1 etc
8) Maximum operating frequency of any small ckt like (reg--> combo---> register) and then tell the maximum operating frequency

Check below links. There are very helpful any VLSI design interview.
