why are there two micro controllers used?

And can anybody tell me the circuit of the BOOTICE. The site seems to be down.

I have built the Evertool-Light JTAG-interface but replaced the RS232 interface with an FTDI FT232R.
It worked pretty good with an ATMega 16, 32 and 128.

This seems a nice one to build. What are the fuse settings of the ATmega16 when I burn the boot.hex file into it.
