[SOLVED] Bench Equipment Max Peak Voltage input , 50ohms, 75ohms, 1Kohms , 1 meg ohms input

Each Bench equipment has different peak voltage inputs and input load resistance

Is there any relationship with the max peak voltage with the input load resistance impedance?

50 ohms = max peak 5 volts
75 ohms = max peak 10 volts
1K ohms = max peak 15 volts
1 meg ohms = max peak 20 volts

Where do they come up with the load impedance resistance with this max peak voltage?

I have two different frequency counters, one is at 50ohms/max peak 5 volts , the other frequency counter is at 1 meg ohm/ max peak 20 volts

What is the relationship between the max peak voltage and lnput impedance?
 

Some coaxial cable has an impedance of 50 ohms so a counter with a 50 ohms input impedance is used. But many circuits cannot drive a load as low as 50 ohms so a counter with a 1M input impedance is used.
The maximum allowed peak voltage might be when a device inside can be damaged by a higher voltage.

The coaxial cable itself is 50ohms? or it needs a 50ohm termination BNC plug?

We have been using banana red and black cables but they pick up to much noise or hum i think which is causing the frequency counter to not be stable

This is ment for RF frequency generators because the output is 50ohms at 5 volts peak also i think

is it hard for a function generator to drive a load as low as 50ohms

Why is this industry standard?

why is 50ohms at 5 volts peak? where do they get this at

All bench equipment that is 50ohms input has a 5 volts peak input , why not 10 peak or 20 volts peak

There is no de facto max. Standard. Don't assume your equipment applies to all.

BTW where did you get your specs?

1. The main limitation for V vs R by logic is power disipation or V²/R
2. Other limitations may include distortion (THD), Frequency Response, supply voltage
