atmega16 DIL and atmega16 surface mount

atmega16 dil

I have a circuit that uses atmega16 DIL but I want to use the surface mount atmega16 instead. I notice in the datasheet that the pinout between the two version is different. If I rewire the circuit designed with the DIL atmega16 to the pinout of the surface mount version, would it work like the original circuit?
 

atmega dil

if in good connection..then it will..its just a wire.
