Hi

are crc and checksum equivalent

Re: CRC&checksum

CRC is one method of checksum as my knowledge. There are some methods use for error correction and detection. Checksum is used for detect the error in flow control, therefore we can use CRC or Parity methods to use error detection.

Exactly,No BZ in data communication there are types of redundancy checks are there.Out of those CRC and CHECKSUM are two among them.

Re: CRC&checksum

Hi,
Cyclic Redundancy Check(CRC) is a method used for error detection.Use CRC and calculate the checksum to find if the received data contains errors or not.
Excellent treatment to calculate checksum using CRC is given in many networking textbooks, one of them being "Data Communications" by William Stallings
bye
Bhanumurthy.

Re: CRC&checksum

Hey

we create Cyclic codes to correct errors and it is used in LANs and WANs and check sum is for error detection like cyclic codes check sum is based on the concept of redundency

I hope clear

Thank you

HAi,

Both crc and checksum are different donot combine both.

Re: CRC&checksum

Checksum is caculated based on a simple addition, however CRC is much more compilicated since it based on a polynomial mathematical equation.
Obviously CRC is better in error detection compared to Checksum.
