Hi,

I am struggling to connect Altera Development Board DE. I install Quartus 12.0 web addition and also the driver for USB blaster. The driver for USB blaster is installed successfully in Device Manager. But when I open the DE2_ControlPanel.exe in folder DE2_ControlPanel_V2.0.1, and click connect then there is error message at 5% which I have attached. I guess the jtagserver.exe is unable to run the application. Can someone help me in this regard ? What I should do to connect Altera DE2 board to computer through DE2_ControlPanel.exe ?

First did you restart your computer after you installed the driver. I've had occasional problems with these types of USB connections for programming FPGAs in the past if I didn't restart.

Second did you install the drivers without the USB plugged in. I know for a fact Xilinx does NOT want the USB/pod plugged in when installing the driver.

Third maybe this is silly to ask, but is the board connected to the PC through the USB and powered up?

Fourth, is there more than one USB (I seem to recall the DE has more than 1 USB connector) and are you connected to the correct USB blaster one?

1- I restarted computer after installing USB blaster driver.
2- I install driver while USB cable is plugged in and found new hardware is appear. When I disconnect the USB cable then in device manager under USB, the items of Altera disappear. And I do not know how to install driver when board is not connected to computer. Kindly let me know how I can install driver when board is not connected.
3- The board is connected to USB blaster port and powered up while I am trying to connect it to DE2_ControlPanel.exe.

Haven't installed Altera tools for over a year, but I thought it installed the drivers without the USB cable connected. Maybe I don't remember correctly and it installed the driver when I inserted the USB cable.

I know for certain that the Xilinx tools tell you to remove the cable before installing the driver.

Have you tried using Altera's tool to communicate with the board instead of that digilent tool? At least check to see that the JTAG chain can be communicated with and that the FPGA shows up in the JTAG chain.

I also want to install USB blaster driver without cable plugged in. But I do not know how as there is no setup or exe file for blaster driver. Also, I am wondering how to test the board with jtag chain.

You are only showing communication errors with the DE2 control panel.

To test a more basic thing, does the Quartus II programmer recognize the USB Blaster when performing the hardware setup? Does it see the board with Auto Detect?
