accessing com1 using dos

I want to access uart com port of my PC running on win2k/winxp using dos programming.

i tried using PortTalk driver but it didn't work.

It is quite easy to use BASIC (QBASIC or GWBASIC) in DOS to control the COM port.

Win2K doesnt provide DOS program direct access to COM port. As it has virtual DOS and runs DOS program in protected mode.

How to modify the I/O permissions bitmap file?
