accelerometer gyro merge

I am doing a project to develop a remote that acts as air mouse.
I do not have any information how to go about. I know we need to
use a accelerometer and a gyro meter to get the position.
Accelerometer o/p is double integrated to obtain x,y position.
But i have read that even gyro meter is also required to get the
absolute position. I have no idea about how to use the gyro
o/p and also to merge it with accelerometer o/p to derive the
x,y position. Can anyone please help me regarding this?

position derivation from accelerometers and gyros

A gyro measures rotation speed in 3 axes, it's information isn't related to x,y,z position respectively acceleration, as measured by an accelerometer.
You get 6 independent channels from both sensors together (according to 6 degrees of freedom), nothing to merge at all.

Re: Accelerometer and Gyro

Thank u..
For two dimensional movement, does the gyro meter has to be used.. Can we use only dual axis accelerometer to obtain the x,y position of the cursor???

Accelerometer and Gyro

Yes, in principle. But most likely, the position drift is too high for practical use. Check the acceleration offset and noise of your sensor and calculate the expectable position offset after e.g. 1 sec, 10 secs.
