how to design a multimeter

Hi,

Here is link to see a multimeter kit description with ICL7106 :

https://electronickits.com/kit/complete/meas/m-2666k.pdf from here:

https://electronickits.com/kit/complete/meas/ck105.htm

I think it would be useful for you to see another solution too:

https://www.powerdesigners.com/InfoWeb/design_center/Appnotes_Archive/an9336.pdf

To understand the basic principles of making a NOT digital multimeter:

https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_6/chpt_3/11.html for DC and

https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_2/chpt_12/1.html for AC voltages etc.

To answer your question of interfacing 220V AC to an IC input, usually a voltage divider is used as you can see in Fig. 3, page 4 of the m-2666k.pdf from the first link. The resultant resistor value of the several resistors connected in series in the divider gives 10 MegaOhm as a rule, this is called input resistance of a multimeter.

You can find many other details on the web by using google.com or/and reading textbooks on measurement technics. I did some homework for you... :D
