Hi,

anyone know the relationship between H.x and MPEGx.

I think the all H.x is ITU standard,and MPEGx is some companys create.
If we map in H.x and MPEGx link following?
H.261 MPEG2
H.263 MPEG4
H.264 ?

The digital-TV adopt MPEG2, the network flow media adopt MPEG4.
I don't know any ASIC for MPEG4.
BUt now much company are working on specific H.264 en/decoding chip.
can anyone give some interpretion.

Thanks.

H.264 is a ITU-T Recommendation standard of "Advanced Video Coding" and MPEG-4 is ISO/IEC 14496 standard. They are working on the merging them. For more information, please see the following book:

It seems that new video chip should surport all
mainstream video codec protocal,such as H.264,
MPEG2,microsoft window media player 9 and mpeg4,
broadcomm released such a chip recently

If they must have relationship.
then : H.261 -> MPEG1
H.263 -> MPEG2
and
H.264 = MPEG4 part 10

hi,
the relationship is
H.261 -> MPEG1
H.262-> MPEG2
H.263 -> MPEG4 part 2(in short header mode)
and
H.264 = MPEG4 part 10

H.264 is a newly video codec standard. It was developed by the corporation of ITU-T and MPEG. So it can be called: H.264, AVC, JVT, MPEG-4 part-10,whatever you like. The coding efficiency of H.264 is 1.5~2 times than MPEG-4 part2 (which is the MPEG-4 we usually call) and coding complexity is also about 2 times higher.
