first tell which type you are asking to design......intially in embedded system you should make 5v voltage supply , reset circuit,crystall oscillator, led blinking with 8051 microcontroller etc to start
Even I will say if you want to start with some of the basics of diode and transistor related circuit to gain the confidance.....Also you if you want to start the skill on the Software ....you can start working wiht Orcad or KiCAD, Also you need to learn the skills for the datasheet reading
