8-digit frequency counter project anyone?

It seems too difficult to find what I am looking on the web. A 8-digit (Hz accuracy) frequency counter using a microcontroller and 7-segment displays. About 50MHz max freq
 

There's an Australian hobbyist magazine called "Silicon Chip" that ran such a project a few months back - have a look at: https://www.siliconchip.com.au/Issue/2012/December
Item 6 in the table of contents is part 1 of their "2.5 GHz 12 digit frequency counter" using a PIC16F877 and 7 segment displays.

Yes I have seen this project. I would really like to see the circuit diagram, but It is not available anywhere.
