why no "locking" of stator and rotor poles problem in synchronous motor?

why doesn't the phenomenon of "locking" of stator poles with rotor poles not cause the motor to stop in case of synchronous motor? Whereas in Induction motor, the slots are deliberately skewed to avoid locking of rotor field in stator??

Also , synchronous motor, once out of Synchronous speed, i.e. synchronism, stops - suggesting that it has to be "locked" whereas induction motor will "stop" as a result of no resultant torque in case it is locked??? PLease explain this?!:roll:
