Hi,
I had been using a quartz oscillator for one of design. Due to some failure modes, I am looking for some oscillator working on different principle than Quartz.

This Quartz oscillator goes in high frequency oscillation if any of load capacitor shorts due to any failure. These high oscillation cause my micro controller to behave very strange. I am looking for an clock generation solution which may have different failure mode in a case of output open/short.

I search some, which works on MEMS technology. I was looking for some RC ones, but could not find any yet. I need oscillator for automotive domain.

Regards,
Umesh

An open solder/cap failure could cause an overtone high freq resonance.
A short would stop the clock.

I would choose a reliable 1ppm TCXO $1 and have a sanity timer for clock errors

There is a lot more to the design of crystal oscillators than many people realize.

For high reliability over a wide temperature range a crystal oscillator module is recommended, as the people that build these have full control of the crystal itself, its parameters, and the design of the oscillator circuit.
