12V dc power line communication

Hi,
Is it possible to communicate over dc power line of 12V as a master slave rs 485 communication.
Is there any specific IC's available.
If possible please tell me how to do that?

Then what is mean by power line communication.
Is that only for AC?
So you mean is it not possible to communicate over DC line, is it?

no i meant using rs485 for data over some power line could be a problem.
usually single-ended signal would be coupled in & out from the power line using capacitive coupling, after possibly being modulated onto some carrier freq.

the rs485 is a differential signal meant for directly driving a long wire pair, so i'm not sure how you would do this.

I did not mean to have a rs485 over dc line.
I mean to have a communication between a master and some slaves similar to rs485 communication.
So could you tell me how to communicate over a 12V dc line between devices. If you know any ic or circuit please share..
