Hi.

I have some PCBs that have a Lithium battery each, charged by a dedicated IC with a programmable current from 100 to 200mA, through a resistor RPROG.
The batteries are 3.7V of 3000 to 5000mAh. 4.2V floating voltage

Somebody know if is NOT recommended to make a very slow charge to these kind of batteries? Could that reduce their useful life-time?
The dedicated charger IC restarts the charge when the voltage of the Li-ion voltage goes 5% below the floating voltage (VFLOAT = 4,2V)

their life time will drop eventually as the batteries never reach full power in any working instance

and also note life time of batteries in general is halved once it goes flat

This is not true for lithium based batteries.

Lithium-Ion-Poli can rest completely empty without problem, best and recommended level for longer resting is 40% of charge at 25C.

Li rechargeable batteries should made few full cycles on start of their lives to get full capacity, after then you can use it.

They have about 500-800 cycles before they die. Every day scientist working on some newer combinations and tech for this batteries to prolong life, decrease price, increase capacity, decrease charging time, increase security,...

But your constatation is completelly sure for Lead Acid batteries, maybe you mix them. ;-)

can abrupt cycles cause damage to the battery in any way

Yes but Li rechargeable based batteries can be completely discharged, but lead acid (starter type not, deep cycle is other story).

For charger you can see this nice project :
