Can anyone explain me about the significance of VCD files for power analysis in Xilinx environment?And exactly how do we do the power estimation of the design using VCD files.
 

The vcd files give the transition of nets, the power estimation tool takes each transition as an arc and with the help of timing libraries, estimates the power.
This is dynamic power estimation.
The vcd helps in determining the activity in the design and there by power consumption.
