Mathmatica is the BEST of the BEST for symbolic mathematics.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is more like a powerfull caculator.


if you are not doing a symbolic operation, matlab is good too.. because making a program in mathematics was not be a pleasant experience for me.
 

Matlab is widely used in technical calculation, such as design equalizer. Matlab is power in programming and do the arithemtics. Mathematica is very good when you are deriving an equation or need to reach an analytical solution.
