Spice model question

What are the differences between .cir and .mod spice models?

Thanks in advance

Re: Spice model question

first of all i am not able to understand ur q properly!!!
what do u mean by spice models --??

i think .mod is used to define models of the components like mos.
this file can be used in any circuit files .cir but u have to mention the model file name.
if u r specifying model in the .cir then that model can be used in that file only

i hope this clarifies ur dbt!!!

Re: Spice model question

Both .cir and .mod are a text files with the device spice model. You can find it in many manufacturers' web pages. They can have another extentions, not only .mod or .cir, for example .txt, depending on manufacturer.
After download such a file, you have to make a detail or symbol using your SPICE software, before you can use it for simulation.

Re: Spice model question

The SPISE model text files from different manufacturers has extensions:
Analog Devices: .cir
Fairchild: .mod
Maxim: .fam
National Semiconductor: .cir, .mod, .txt
ON: .txt
Philips: .cir
TI: .txt, .mod (for Burr Brown parts)

All of them work fine with SPICE,
